Higher
Ground Academy closely monitors student progress in
the core
areas of reading, language arts and mathematics because, it
is generally
known that effective learning in these areas is fundamental to successful
learning in all other areas.
The
Office of Curriculum and Assessment regularly monitors
student progress in reading, language arts and mathematics
to determine whether students are achieving mastery of
skills in these areas. If mastery is not achieved, a
preliminary review is conducted to determine what classroom
interventions should be made.
If proper interventions have been made, and at the next
review period, the student has not mastered the skills,
student/parent-teacher conference is convened. The student
is placed on academic probation and is assigned to the
Academic Recovery Program. The student is withdrawn from all
recreation and sports program until the probation status is
removed by successfully completing all make-up work.
As a
result of the conference, a recommendation will be made that
the student voluntarily attends The Academic Recovery Center
on Saturdays between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 pm. in order to
complete the necessary make-up work. If the academic problem
persists the student can be placed on mandatory academic
probation and the student will continue in the Academic
Recovery Center until the necessary skills are mastered. |
