Higher Ground Academy was born from the belief that every child deserves access to a rigorous, college-preparatory education — regardless of their background. What began as a small school with a big dream has become one of St. Paul's most respected charter schools.

Our Founder

Higher Ground Academy was founded in 1999 by community leaders committed to serving St. Paul's East African and immigrant families. Their vision was simple and demanding: build a school where high expectations and cultural pride reinforce one another, and where every scholar is prepared for college.

That founding vision continues to guide the school today.
