Yes. HGA is a tuition-free public charter school. There are no enrollment fees, application fees, or tuition costs. All families are welcome.
No. HGA is open to any family in Minnesota. While most of our scholars reside in St. Paul, families from across the metro area and beyond are welcome to apply.
If applications exceed available seats, a fair lottery is conducted in accordance with Minnesota charter school law. Siblings of current students receive enrollment priority.
Yes. HGA provides bus transportation for scholars who live within the transportation boundary. Contact the main office for route information.
HGA serves kindergarten through 12th grade across three divisions: Elementary (K–5) and Junior High (6–7) on Marshall Ave, and Secondary (8–12) on Brewster St. Students can complete their entire K-12 journey with us.
Our staff and community speak English, Arabic, Somali, Spanish, Pashto/Dari, Oromo, Urdu, and more. We offer robust English Language Development (ELD) services and multilingual family communication so every family feels welcome and informed.
Yes. HGA identifies scholars for gifted and talented programming and provides accelerated instruction when appropriate. Depending on grade level, that can include flexible grouping so advanced learners work on higher-level material, grade skipping (primarily in elementary), honors coursework in grades nine and ten, and Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) for qualified high school scholars. Advanced Placement (AP), honors, and PSEO courses carry weighted grades. Families of younger children may also ask about early admission to kindergarten or first grade. Talk with your scholar's principal to find the right path.
Yes. All HGA students receive free breakfast and lunch every school day through the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). Our meals are nutritious, halal-friendly, and culturally considerate.
